Microsoft Word (otherwise called Word) is the most basic programme on the computer, and it is the most used programme on the computer, and I think that must be even in the whole world, not only in Nigeria. Word is the basic Word Processing programme.
Word processing means producing files in text format e.g. letters, manuals, etc. Word is what they use for almost all text work. Most often, even if that work will be finished on any other publishing programme, they are usually started on Word before they are copied or converted into any other publishing programmes. Other publishing programmes apart from Word include PowerPoint, PageMaker, Publisher, CorelDraw, Acrobat Reader, etc. Often is not so easy to just start working into these programmes with text work, but they would have made them into Word and then open, copy or convert them into the format of any of these other programmes. This is why Word is the basic programme onn the computer.
If you have ever seen somebody working on the computer, it is most likely that you would have seen the Word Programme. Word is the programme the typists use. Have you ever been to the business center and you see the typist working on a white page of the computer, typing into the page? Did you ever see that? That very programme is Microsoft Word.
On Word, you can produce documents like letters, letter-heads, manuals, pamphlets, tracts, write-ups, etc. and you will agree with me that these are the basic documents that are used or produced in the office for official issues.
That is why if you are going to be computer-literate, Word is a programme that you must learn and know. In fact, it is also the basic programme to learn in your quest to be computer-literate.
You know, it is one thing to be computer-literate, it is another to be computer guru! You know the difference between the two? You want me to tell you? Well, that is for another day. If you are a reader of this column, you must make yourself to be one of the two. That is why we are here to serve you salient information that will help and inspire you to improve upon yourself and be a better contributor to your life, organization, family, society, etc.
